Philosophy of the program seeks to train competent Technicians who can fully assist the Pharmacist in reading prescriptions and dispensing medications. The Pharmacy Association in Cameroon will be registering Pharmacy Technician into the Association, which gives a great opportunity for trained Pharmacy Technician to be fully accepted within the Pharmacy profession(within the job market)

HPD Curriculum

The curriculum for HPD as designed by the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon has been incorporated into our curriculum. Graduates with an MLT Minor join the program in year 2 and after completing two years, sit for the Cameroon HPD exams in Pharmacy Technology and obtain an HPD Certificate. One Credit represents 10 hours of teaching and learning over 8 weeks and 8 weeks of clinical placement(see detailed course structure)

Learning during this program shall be mostly Enquiry-Based, classroom sandwiched with long distance delivery through E-learning, CDs or paper at patients' site. A-Level graduates will gain full admission into this course after taking the one-year Institute premedical Science courses

Program Vision and Mission
It is the goal of HIAMS to graduate well prepared Pharmacy Technologists who are strong professionals both clinically and academically to be able to fully assist Pharmacists in reading prescriptions and dispensing drugs. We aim at developing flexible, skilled professionals who will be able to respond to a changing health care environment and who are of comparable standards to those in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Conversion from HPD to Bachelors Degree

Our HPD graduates are eligible to enroll for a conversion to Bachelors of Technology (BTech) in Pharmacy Technology at HIAMS in 12 months with the University of Buea in which the students will be trained on Pharmaceutical Sciences which will involves drug identification, extraction, purification and compounding techniques, procedures and processes

Aims of the Program

This program aims at training students to gain entry into Pharmacy Technology as technologists or technician by enabling them to:

Develop a range of skills that are necessary to perform routine prescription readings and drug dispensing

Develop skills in recognizing errors in patient prescriptions

Apply the skills developed in 1 and 2 above to fully assist pharmacists in the execution of their function.

Communicate effectively with patients, their families and other health professionals

Facilitate skills of criteria reflection, self-evaluation and continuous improvement and professional clinical practice

Minimum Entry Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Zoology with an MLT Minor for 2 years Transition

G.C.E Advanced Level with Two Science Subjects for the 3 years program.
