Introduction

The Radiology Technology Program seeks to train world class graduates and ethical professionals who will work closely with the radiologist in operation x-ray equipment, preparing patients for diagnostic x-ray, perform Radiographic examinations and provide qualify medical x-ray images.

HPD Curriculum

The curriculum for HPD as designed by the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon has been incorporated into our curriculum. Graduates with an MLT Minor join the program in year 2 and after completing two years, sit for the Cameroon HPD exam in Radiology Technology and learning over 8 weeks and 8 weeks of clinical placement(see detailed course structure)

Learning during this program shall mostly Enquiry-Based, classroom sandwiched with E-learning, CDs or paper at patient's site. This program shall cover basic Medical laboratory, basic Ultrasonography and Radiology Technology courses.

We believe the progressive training modules, allow students to gain employment after the first two modules, or become useful to employers as functional Sonographers, within the shortest possible time after their start of training

Program Mission

The mission of the radiology technology program at HIAMS is the education and preparation of student for career as a diagnostic radiographer. The curriculum is designed to synthesize clinical and didactic experience in Sonography, to instill the desire for excellence in practice and to provide a foundation for academic and career advancement. We aim at developing flexible, skilled professionals who will be able to respond to a changing health care environment and who are of comparable standards to those in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

Aims of the Program

This program aims at training students to gain entry into radiology technology as technologist or technicians by enabling them to:

Develop a range of skills that are necessary to perform routine diagnostic x-ray examination.

Develop skills in recognizing normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology and pathology using x-rays

Apply the skills developed in 1 and 2 above together with results from other chemical or physical tests and clinical findings to diagnose patients conditions or recommend further testing

Communicate effectively with patients, their families and other health professionals

Facilitate skills of criteria reflection, self-evaluation and continuous improvement and professional clinical practice

Provide in-training and end of training employment for students and graduates.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Zoology with an MLT Minor for 2 years Transition

G.C.E Advanced Level with Two Science Subjects for the 3 years program.
